Yes, it\u2019s Vegas on steroids and the playground for the rich.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2471\/4032366843_b82aea8efc_m.jpg\" alt=\"Abu Dhabi.Sparkly Couch\" \/><br \/>\nMe on the rhinestone couch in the lobby of the<br \/>\nFairmont Abu Dhabi \u00a0&#8211; Bling bling!<\/p>\n<p>It was 3 weeks of hard, but fun, work. We set up and opened multiple bars \u2013 from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/babalbahr\/GuestServices\/Restaurants\/MarcoPierreWhiteSteakhouseandGrill.htm\">Marco Pierre White\u2019s new Steak House Restaruant<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeoutdubai.com\/restaurants\/reviews\/7713-frankies-italian-bar-grill\">Frankie\u2019s Italian Restaurant<\/a>\u2026 to the beautiful Pool Bar and the Lucious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/babalbahr\/GuestServices\/Restaurants\/ChocolateGallery.htm\">Chocolate Gallery<\/a>. (And I want to add that the staff and managers were AMAZING!)<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2760\/4095315933_892e23ce1b_m.jpg\" alt=\"IMG00120-20091024-2241\" \/><br \/>\nMiss Kirsten and I after testing a LOT of chocolate cocktails that we shook up for the new Chocolate Gallery!<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say we were up to our eyeballs in cocktails! Since, beer, wine and spirits are served only at hotels; you can imagine non-alcoholic drinks are also super popular.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The non-alcoholic drinks WERE amazing. The most popular, was the super simple, \u201cwhy didn\u2019t I think of that,\u201d <strong>Minted Lemonade<\/strong>. This is not just mint in lemonade, this is lemonade, ice and fresh mint blended smooth and brilliant green. It\u2019s the perfect refresher for the hot HOT heat. \u00a0It\u2019s tart, sweet, tangy, and refreshing! I\u2019ve given a basic recipe below. \u00a0Just be sure to use a decent lemonade with a good punch \u2013 none of this \u201cwatery lemonade,\u201d &#8230;the kind masquerading as lemonade in the refrigerator section with a whole whopping 7% lemon juice!\u00a0 It&#8217;s important to use a good lemony lemonade.<\/p>\n<p>Blend in a small slice of ginger for an even more intense refreshing kick.<\/p>\n<p>What else did we eat and drink while in Abu Dhabi and Dubai? Only the best Indian food either of us has ever had in the Elements Restaurant at the Fairmont Abu Dhabi! Dal, also spelled <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dal\">dahl, dhal, or daal<\/a><strong>,<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tikka\">tikkas<\/a>\u00a0 and curries of a zillion variations. No matter how you spell it, they were all amazing.\u00a0 We also enjoyed delicious Lebanese food at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeoutdubai.com\/restaurants\/reviews\/9296-cafe-blanc\">Caf\u00e9 Blanc<\/a> a cool caf\u00e9 at the Dubai mall. We sat outside one lovely warm evening and sampled so many great dishes I thought I would burst.<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2649\/4095315777_50cdbe8902_m.jpg\" alt=\"fairmont.abudabi 288\" \/><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2454\/4096076164_0ae43172db_m.jpg\" alt=\"fairmont.abudabi 293\" \/><br \/>\nFavs: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fattoush\">Fattoush<\/a> salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, crisp flat bread with sumac and coriander, chicken livers in pomegranate molasses, and another amazing non alcoholic drink \u2013 served in layers of blended avocado, red dates, blended rose \u2026.. 3 layers of sipping goodness \u2013 zowie!<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><img src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2802\/4096076258_76dee62c55_m.jpg\" alt=\"fairmont.abudabi 286\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z7q-cp22bWc\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Click here<\/strong><\/a> for a fun video\u00a0I took and edited\u00a0with my new Flip Video Camera, showing how they made the above three-layer drink!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And yes \u2013 I know you all want to know if I drank Camel Milk?<br \/>\nOf course and I made a cocktail out of it too!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><strong><img class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2803\/4095315711_024f8650b8_m.jpg\" alt=\"Abu Dabi mint drink 002\" \/>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\"><strong>Minted Lemonade<br \/>\n<\/strong>Makes 1 serving<\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left\">3 large sprigs fresh mint<br \/>\n1 cup big flavored lemonade<br \/>\n1\/2 \u2013 3\/4 cup ice<br \/>\nGarnish: fresh mint sprig<\/p>\n<p>Tear mint and add to blender. Measure in lemonade and ice and blend on high till smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with mint.
