Experience the Taste of Tulalip!

Washington is well-known for its delicious foodie events like the 3rd annual Taste of Tulalip, a 2-day award-winning food and wine weekend hosted by Tulalip Resort & Casino. Guests will enjoy events like fab tastings of over 100 regional and international wines, lavish parties, and entertaining panels.

I’m super-excited to be hosting the Magnum Party on Saturday, November 12th, where you can sip swank wines, enjoy my some of my d’lish apps. This is a rare opportunity to taste some amazing wines that award winning sommelier and wine buyer Tommy Thompson has chosen just for this party.

Top Chef alum and new co-host to ABC TV’s “Chew”, Carla Hall will be on hand for a cooking demo. The “Thirsty Girl” Leslie Sbrocco will be emceeing all this deliciousness, and I heard that there may be a culinary throw down going on as well at the Rock and Roll Cooking Challenge!

The Taste of Tulalip takes places Friday, November 11th and Saturday, November 12th at Tulalip Resort & Casino – tickets are available through their website and are going fast!

Citrus Twist: Grapefruit Negroni

Grapefruit NegroniDelicious citrus is a wonderful way of brightening up your taste buds as the colder months come along. From oranges to grapefruits, this season’s citrus is perfect to use in tasty libations!

On this week’s video of Kathy Casey’s Liquid Kitchen™, I make a Grapefruit Negroni! Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice is shaken up with the gin, red vermouth and Campari for this slight variation of the classic Negroni cocktail.

Barrel-aged cocktail: JBT Blue?!

JBT BlueFrom wines to beers as well as spirits, barrel-ageing is a wonderful process that adds subtle hints of flavor to an already wonderful complex notes. But barrel-ageing a cocktail? It can be done! Trend setting mixologists and bartenders, such as Portland’s Jeffery Morgenthaler, have been experimenting with aged cocktails with some faboo results!

On this week’s video of Kathy Casey’s Liquid Kitchen™, I make a JBT Blue! This is a spirit-forward cocktail recipe that combines bourbon, silver tequila, triple sec, red vermouth and Campari. Poured into a barrel, this cocktail is aged for about three weeks. Once aged to my liking, I pour enough for one cocktail, stir with ice and garnish with a maraschino cherry!

Washington’s Rebecca Spence wins Grand Prize in the 2nd Annual Foster Farms Fresh Chicken Competition!

Congratulations to Vancouver, Washington’s Rebecca Spence for winning the grand prize of the 2nd Annual Foster Farms Fresh Chicken Competition! In the spirit of contest’s focus on fresh, local ingredients, her Crispy Orange Chicken with Fennel, Avocado and Orange Salad beat out nearly 2000 recipes to help her win the grand prize of $10,000 and a year’s worth of Foster Farms fresh chicken!

Seattle Cocktail Week 2011

For the first time ever, the Emerald City will be hosting Seattle Cocktail Week 2011 from October 27th – 30th! Seattle’s finest bartenders and mixologists will be shaking a bevy of tasty cocktails during the entire event for all levels of cocktail enthusiasts! To commemorate the first annual event, there will be neighborhood pub crawls, a huge closing bash and other tasty tidbits.

I’ll be amongst a panel of judges for the Bartenders on Fire challenge on October 31st at Vito’s Restaurant & Lounge! (No bartenders will actually be on fire!) This cocktail team event will pair some of Seattle’s top barmen including Liberty Bar’s Keith Waldbauer, Vessel’s Jim Romdall and Sambar’s Jay Kuehner against other Washington barmen using Novo Fogo Cachaca and several secret ingredients. Make sure to RSVP to try out their libations!

Foodie Favorites

Seattle is nothing short of a foodie haven – there are so many d’lish places to eat that you could spend all your time visiting restaurants and still not get to them all! Of course, we all have our go-to faves, and here are some of mine that were featured in the Wall Street Journal recently.

First, let’s start with Fremont’s Revel. Their urban Korean-inspired menu is uber-creative and delicious to boot. My must-have dish when I visit is their crispy Shrimp Edamame Pancake (sometimes it gets switched up seasonally – but any variety is always faboo) – I like to smear it with their bean paste hot sauce! Other faves are whatever’s on their “meat platter” of the day.

For speakeasy sipping, head to Needle & Thread (just upstairs at Tavern Law) where the bartender will craft you a custom cocktail – just name your spirit and how you like it.

Where do the locals go for fish and chips?  Check out Little Chinook’s at the fisherman’s terminal – savor the flavors (and the scenery) as you wander the docks with your food in hand.

From Local 360 in Belltown, I crave the naughty but oh-so-nice molten PB&J Bon Bons served with a shot of farm-fresh milk. The perfect end to a local, sustainable and seriously delicious meal!

For a neighborhood vibe and crazy-good cocktails, stop by Capitol Hill’s Liberty Bar, featuring hand-crafted cocktails, an amazing selection of Japanese whiskies and more Washington micro-distilled spirits than you can shake a muddler at.

But for a cool downtown destination, celebrity chef Michael Mina blends French cuisine with Northwest ingredients and a dash of California flair at RN74 – stop by for a cocktail, a glass of wine or a full-on fab dinner.

If you still find yourself wondering “Where should I eat?”, Seattle’s food maven Keren Brown, the Frantic Foodie, is making it a whole lot easier to decide with her new book, Food Lover’s Guide to Seattle.
